Okay -- I'm not a pro, but not an amateur either. for around $50 your cabinets will be perfect. One thing I would suggest --- I wrapped electrical tape around the tool to protect the cabinet surface from marring. This tool makes this job SOOOOOOO easy.
There is no comparison. However, as long as your drill is straight and you take the time to mark your drill bit you wont have to worry about the big coming out of the face of the cabinet or thru the other side. Can you hang cabinets without this tool -- yes. I've done cabinets without this tool and I just did one with this tool.
As some reviews have said -- you're a bit "blind" when you drill the holes because you can't really see into the drill holes/guides. This tool makes hanging cabinets a BREEZE. You can get the cabinet faces lined up very nicely, drill and counter-sink your screws, pull the cabinet claws and you're done.
But why would you. Not sure if it would have, but why take the chance.
Easy to use. The felt on the clamps really protects the wood. Great product.
More convenient and faster than using C-Clamps. If one of the stiles refuses to go back flush after tightening up the clamp I use a card board shim only on the side of the stile that needs to be coaxed back flush with the with the other stile. Card board shim strips used for drywall work great.
Put the screw in and you on to the next. After years of using hand clamps, I thought I would give these a try. A depth stop on the countersink bit makes it easy to stop but I did found that a piece of tape works a little easier and it doesn't get in the way of the drill guide. I couldn't believe how much nicer these were to use. The drill guide is used for the pilot hole and then you swing the guide out of the way and finish with the countersink bit. Since I don't do this for a living, the price from Amazon makes this well worth the money. The tool is made to last a more than a lifetime so it would be something that would be passed down or on to someone else.
The Pony cabinet claw clamp is the only clamp that can be used to line up face frame cabinets in two planes. The clamp can be used to clamp two cabinet side face frames together, align them and then provide a drill guide to join them together. The clamps are of good quality and perform well.
